Visit to Cotabato City, Mindanao Island (November 8th - 9th)
It's a long drive of about 5 hours by car, or 220km in distance.
What was unique about this trip was that our destination was Cotabato City,
and on the way we drove through the Muslim region of Lanao, which took
about four hours.
Most of the journey was through the mountains, and there were long stretches where there was no cell phone reception.
Both Lanao and Cotabato City are currently listed as dangerous according to the Japanese Ministry of Foreign Affairs' overseas safety information.3.This is the area where 'Travel advisory' is issued.
This is said to be because militant and extremist activity has not yet completely subsided in some areas.
By the way, the city of Ozamiz where I live is level1.'Be very careful': It is a relatively safe and stable commercial city.
Current.MILF.(Moro Islamic Liberation Front) has transitioned to autonomous government
administration
after reaching a peace agreement with the government.
They are no longer engaged in armed anti-government struggle as they once did. however,MILF.It branched off fromBIFF.(Bangsamoro Islamic Freedom Fighters.) and the Islamic State (IS.) extremist groups,
They are said to still be active in the mountainous areas of Lanao del Sur and Maguindanao provinces.
Therefore, Japan's Ministry of Foreign Affairs continues to consider there to be a security risk.
4 hours of driving through the mountains of Lanao
Still, most of the mountainous areas I drove through were peaceful,
and the downtown and commercial areas of Cotabato City had a generally
peaceful atmosphere.
What was striking was that many of the women were wearing hijabs (Hijab.) scarves that covered their hair, necks, and ears.
Among them is the niqab (Niqab.) I also saw some people with only their eyes exposed.
But despite differences in religious beliefs, people peacefully go about their daily lives and the city functions normally. Witnessing this scene, I felt a strong sense of 'Everyday peace' transcending religious and cultural differences.
A Muslim woman at the restaurant where I had dinner.
When I was paying, I said 'Please give me the receipt', and when they handed it to me, I said 'Thank you', and they smiled.
Although they are Muslim, they are just ordinary Filipinos.
The purpose of my visit to Cotabato this time was to visit the home of DU9JJY Tasmi.
YAESU G-5500 rotator for satellites.
It is fixed to the pipe with a plate welded to it, so when I asked how the orientation was determined,
It was 'The pole can be rotated at the base.'.
I asked how the antenna was attached.
It was 'I bought a used 6m high scaffolding used at construction sites.'
DU9JJY's shack.
I placed a bid on the ICOM IC-7410 on Yahoo Auctions and had a friend send it to me via EMS.
The next day, November 9th, I was at the hotel and was given an explanation on how to use the SatPC32.
Apparently, he also previously purchased the ICOM IC-9700 on Yahoo Auctions.
The WAZ satellite was completed in 2024 using this radio.
